Stephen Ministery
At St. Mary Church -
The Stephen Ministry is a lay ministry program that equips people to
provide Christian care to those experiencing all kinds of life needs.
Through a confidential, one-on-one caring relationship with a Stephen
Minister, someone experiencing challenging times can receive the care and
support that they need. As a lay ministry this caring is not designed to
replace professional counseling, but is meant to offer a trained lay
person to walk along side a fellow Christian in pain.
At this time we are forming a class
to train interested adults in our parish to become Stephen Ministers.
There is a commitment to participate in the training from October to May.
On completion of the fifty hours of training the participants are
commissioned. The Stephen Ministers will then be assigned to a parishioner
who has made a request. At present our leadership team for Stephen
Ministry includes: Father William Metzler, Janet Holden, Linda Duff, and
Laureen Basta. We are hoping to increase the leadership team as interested
parishioners come forward.

Extraordinary

component of the parish with trained parishioners who are commissioned to
serve for six years at a time. They distribute communion at weekday and
Sunday Masses, to the homebound, Governor's
House, Belden Forest Court, Virginia Connolly Apartments, and Owen Murphy
Apartments. Anyone interested in serving should contact the pastor.
Scheduling is done by Larry Christian, 651-9809.
Lectors -
Lectors do the readings and intercessions at
weekday, Sunday
and Holy Day Masses. Anyone interested in becoming a lector, call Mary Kunycky, Coordinator, 658-6956.
Altar Servers
- Altar servers begin as fourth graders. They serve at all the
liturgical celebrations in the church and at the religious education
Masses at Squadron Line School. Interested students should contact the
office, 658-5919.
Rosary - The
Rosary of the Blessed Mother is recited by a number of groups in the
parish. In the Spring of each year, the Women's Guild celebrates the
Living Rosary. The Right to Life Committee invites participation in the
recitation of the Rosary on the first Saturday of the month following
morning Mass. The Rosary is also recited on the remaining Saturdays of the
month for peace. |
